Scheme comprises the current use of the building is a nursery school on lease from the putney methodist church and it will remain. The proposed works are required to bring the school in line with the basic standard requirements in terms of additional floor space and facilities. To achieve the goal it is proposed to reconfigure the volume of the first floor by removing a but not original partition and adding some mezzanines which will be supported by laminated timber columns and steel beam. The leitmotif of the project is do not intrude the significant fabric by providing a reversible layout achieved by inserting elements made of natural and sustainable materials such as timber and glass which help also to provide a friendly and comfortable environment for the little guests. The south west side will be characterized by an articulate mezzanine and two coloured multiuse partitions which enclose two new class rooms. The wide staircase, developed following the north-south axis, connects the first floor to the medical and changing room ( backstage level) and the class rooms to the mezzanine. To minimise the sense of intrusion the mezzanine is kept back from the windows. The north east side of the first floor is treated differently, the volume of the high room will be demarcated by the laminated timber trees columns supporting the floating mezzanine. The long staircase is detached from the wall to improve the floating meaning of the structure. The shape and the position of this mezzanine is meant to underline the volume of the room and the two dormers. To the backstage level some new partitions are required to form the medical room, the changing area and a new toilet. The partitions will not carry up to the ceiling and they will be done in accordance and respect of the stage curtain apparatus.
