Appointment confirms 192.com's commitment to data protection principles
Phil Jones, ex-Assistant Commissioner at the Information Commissioner's office has been appointed as an advisor to 192.com, the UK's leading online directory and people-finding website.
Mr Jones will advise 192.com on matters relating to data protection, ensuring the company carries out best practice in collating and publishing data on people in the UK.
Phil Jones worked for the ICO and its predecessors as an Assistant Commissioner for 20 years, retiring in July 2010. Throughout this time he has provided advice across the private and public sectors on data protection and electronic communications, presenting at major conferences and representing the ICO in the UK and internationally.
A member of the Article 29 sub-group of the European Commission which produced opinions on the definitions of 'personal data', 'data controller' and 'data processor,' Mr Jones will be instrumental in guiding 192.com as it continues to provide people-finding services across multiple platforms including the mobile web.
