Can I search the birth, marriage and death indexes by volume and page?

You will not be able to search the birth, marriage and death indexes by Volume and Page number.

Once I have viewed the birth, marriage and death page I require, I ought to have the district, volume and page. what do I then do with this information?

With the index information you will be able to purchase a certificate online, by post, telephone and fax, or by dropping in at the Family Records Centre (FRC) in person. Please see order a certificate for more details.

Within the census records, what is a schedule number?

The enumerator allocated a different schedule number to each household that he visited, in the order that he visited them. As several households may have lived at one address, there may be several schedule numbers attached to the same address.

Within the census records, why are some schedule numbers missing from the list of addresses?

Some addresses contained several households, each of which has a different schedule number. In the address search results, you are only shown the first schedule number for each address. However, if you choose to view the address transcript you will see every household and schedule number for that address.

Can I view and print birth, marriage and death certificates from this site?

You will not be able to print the actual certificates. The images on 192.com are a scanned copy of the indexes to the registers only.

Am I able to order a certificate online?

Yes, you can order a certificate online by linking from our site to the General Register Office http://www.gro.gov.uk
Please note though that 192.com is not responsible for the ordering and supply of certificates.

Can I narrow down searches by surname?

For the copy of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1837 to 1983, it is possible to narrow searches by forename and surname.
For the copy of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1984 to 2004, it is possible to search by forename and surname (as well as mother’s maiden name, birth date, middle initial, spouse’s surname and district).
For the census records it is possible to search by forename and surname, occupation, sex, address, place of birth and other members of the household.
